Stud Improvements 2007
Water troughs - Measures continue to be taken to drought-proof the property (we have had six years to perfect this), and a further 15 new slabs and water troughs ow mean that every grazing paddock on HR allows access to permanent bore water for stock.

Bores - We have also connected the two major bores so that one can back up the other in case of emergencies.

Ram Selling Complex – The covered roof area of the ram selling race behind the wool shed has been extended to create a shade/shelter skillion to provide shade; protection from the elements, and improved stock circulation.

Fodder Production – Following our intention to not be continually at the mercy of drought fodder prices, HR has been pro-active in its fodder production and storage.

The stud sowed 600 acres of dryland forage sorghum for a summer crop and rotated sheep and cattle on it all through the summer.

This gave us a valuable bulk of reliable feed on not much rain. 1000 bales (8 x 3 x 3) of wheaten hay fodder was cut from the marginal crop.

 

On Farm Improvements 2006
During the last twelve months we have been working to improve efficiency and productivity throughout Haddon Rig.

WATER: HR bore system reviewed, installed new concrete and plastic troughs, with 10 kms poly-pipe-constant maintenance of troughs; dams and wind-mills

 

Disease Status: MN3 OJD-

Following rigorous testing, Haddon Rig has obtained the highest health status for Ovine Johnes Disease , of MN3.

OH&S A full safety audit has been carried out throughout the farm. Our workplace safety manual is constantly being updated .

 

13 kms constructed from the wool-shed yards running South-East through HR-allowing mobs of sheep to walk independently. 4-Strand plain wire, this fence has 2 electric wires. Proposed extension 7 kms east.

 

Rams are ranked in our sale catalogues with emphasis on body weight; wool cut and quality.
