2008 Haddon Rig On Property 2 – Tooth Sale

SALE WRAP-UP

Haddon Rig's hoggett sale proved to be a great day of positive recognition for this performing merino bloodline.
Brad Wilson, Stud/Stock journalist with The Land Newspaper reported:

Haddon Rig two tooth Merino rams sold to $5000, with thirty registered buyers clearing 105 rams from 108, to average $1414, while nine Poll rams averaged $922, last Thursday.

The highlight of the sale was the return of long term and repeat clients, who took home the majority of the offering.

It was long term clients Kevin and Rose Marie Perry, “Inverness”, Warren who purchased the $5000 top priced ram, weighing 106 kilograms, testing 19.4 micron and sired by Nerstane 43.

Andy McLeod, the Perry family’s sheep classer described the top priced ram as a long bodied sheep, with good neck extension, carrying very rich, soft handling wool on a reasonable plain body.

The Perry family across three generations have been purchasing Haddon rig rams for over 100 years.

Return clients, Frank and Arthur Bragg, Rossgole Pastoral Company, Aberdeen averaged $1432 for their fourteen rams, last year they took home twelve rams, averaging $1233.

John Jones, manager, Thistle Bank Grazing Company, Aramac, Queensland (QLD), took home ten rams, to average $1020.

Mr Jones said the quality of sheep and the wool on them is why he returns to buy Haddon Rig rams.

“They have soft handling wool on a good frame and have increased my wool cut, the rams will be joined to the existing 4500 pure Haddon Rig blood ewe flock”, Mr Jones said.

Return customers Pinehurst Pastoral Company, Merrygoen, paid to $2250, in their draft of five rams, averaging $1960, while Walker and Co, “Tara”, Barcaldine, QLD, took six rams across the border to average $1620.

Caley Pastoral Company, Walgett, purchased seven rams, to average $1178, and Peter Perry, “Major” Warren, Kevin Perry’s brother, averaged $1050 for his draft of eight rams.

Haddon Rig Principal, George Falkiner, said it was a pleasing result, with the number of Poll rams out of stud Landsdowne ewes, set to increase to around 80 for next years sale.

Prior to the sale a working dog demonstration and auction was held, which created a lot of interest from buyers.

Nick Ray, Yoroka Kelpie stud, Haddon Rig, Warren sold Yoroka Ben, an excellent allround, 14 month-old Red and Tan male for $3200 and Yoroka Dougal a black and tan male for $2000, while Phil Wise, Wises Kelpie stud, Warren sold Wises Donk, an 18 month-old, yellow male for $3000.

Their was strong interest and demand for the dogs, with Phil Wise selling two young dogs a 9 month-old male and 12 month-old female for $1000 each after the auction.

The sale was conducted by Landmark and Elders with John Settree and Andy McGeoch the auctioneers.
